KREUZBERGED BERLIN

Everything You Never Knew You Wanted to Know About Berlin

SESAME OPEN or INSIDE THE SPREETUNNEL IN STRALAU

Now and then a miracle happens and your wish is granted without you having to sell your soul (or your kidney) for it.

Having written about the old tram tunnel under the Spree many times before both on this blog and in our “Berlin Companion” – topic we are not quite done with yet – we wished, like most history fans traditionally do, to be able to travel in time and visit the said tunnel in person.

Well, even though that particular wish can no longer be fully granted – the tunnel was flooded and shall remain flooded forever more – getting it partly fulfilled is as good as it gets.

Here is a “Berlin Zeitung” article with a series of photos taken inside the AEG Spreetunnel after the fire fighters had the water pumped out to enable a close inspection of the section used an air-raid shelter during the war. Brace up for impact – countdown for this time machine starts now:-)

Thanks for sharing this article, I also would have loved to have seen the original tunnel having read about it here and in the companion.
This will be as good as it gets.
