KREUZBERGED BERLIN

Everything You Never Knew You Wanted to Know About Berlin

DAILY BERLINERISCH

To spread the word and give Berlinerisch the popularity and audience it deserves, we are starting a new daily series on our blog.

We will be presenting one word, phrase or expression daily to amuse and educate our readers as well as to help them understand how hilarious, clever, dry-witted and warm the “Urberliners” actually are.

So without further ado, here comes the:

HERINGSBÄNDIJA (Herringsbändiger) – literally: a herring tamer; formerly, a young man working in a colonial shop, today it means somebody working at a “Tante-Emma-Laden” (a corner shop).

Kolonialwaren shop in Spreestrasse 22, Berlin-Charlottenburg.
