Everything You Never Knew You Wanted to Know About Berlin
When going gets tough and life´s no longer your oyster, there are two things you can do: lie down and mop or stand up and laugh. Go for the latter and the chances are that one day you´ll find yourself on stage for one of Berlin´s best stand-up comedy shows. The last couple of years have seen an explosive proliferation of excellent comedy venues in Berlin: the Fish Bowl Comedy Club at Bar 1820 in Mitte, …´ner Koffer in Berlin in Neukölln, a regular English programme at the Kookaburra, The Petri Dish at T Berlin to name just a few.
And since life in Berlin might be cool but it surely aint´t no Ponyhof, the best way to deal with your poor grasp of the language, the strange habits of the Locals, the job market, the ballooning rents and the fact that you secretly miss Home, is to laugh the whole way to the Ausländerbehörde.
You can practice that wonderful art of careless giggle and meet the like-minded crew by attending the next International Comedy Showcase at ETB in Fidicinstrasse on August 18th. The event, taking place at irregular dates (the next five have been scheduled for August 18, September 20, October 8 and November 22) belongs to the best venues of its sort. Featuring English-spoken stand-up shows from both German comedians and Berlin-based expats, it offers several hours of giggling and roaring with laughter at the fate of those who might never be able to pronounce the word Eichhörnchen (squirrel) right no matter how hard they try.
With a featuring headliner from a Canadian master of expat laughs Daniel-Ryan Spaulding and a music performance from Berlin-based comedy song duo Sticky Biscuits, the event is hosted and curated by Paul Salamone.
Here is a little sample of Paul Salamon´s stand-up comedy show: “Berlin Face”. Enjoy it!
