KREUZBERGED BERLIN

Everything You Never Knew You Wanted to Know About Berlin

GROßSTADTWINKEL

An amazing painting by Hans Baluschek, dating back to 1929. Today it is part of the collection of Stadtmuseum Berlin. Der Großstadtwinkel is also known under another title as Der Dirnenwinkel.

As for the author, he was born in Breslau (today Wroclaw in Poland) in 1870 and as a six-year-old boy moved with his family to Berlin. Between 1876 and 1880 the Baluscheks moved five times altogether but always within the same neighbourhood.

They lived in Berlin-Kreuzberg.
