Everything You Never Knew You Wanted to Know About Berlin
Old Berlin image: the view from Jannowitzbrücke towards the old Waisenbrücke (built 1892–1894 and blown up by the Wermacht troops, the repaired bridge was finally dismantled in 1960 as no longer needed) and with Berliner Dom visible on the right.
The tall church spire on the left belonged to Petrikirche – damaged in the war but still standing after 1945. The church was blown up to make space for the new thoroughfare planned by the DDR authorities.
