KREUZBERGED BERLIN

Everything You Never Knew You Wanted to Know About Berlin

MUSIC SOOTHES THE SOUL: PAUL KALKBRENNER

Although my techno days are long over and I have not attended any rave for what feels like a thousand years, I am still very much a fan of The Beat.

That is why after the local TV station RBB showed Berlin Calling by Hannes Stöhr that good old strobo light went on in my head again.

Not only is the film about one of the most important people on the 1990s world techno scene, who happens to be a born & bred Berliner and plays himself in a movie based on his own pretty eventful life, but it was also filmed at Urban Krankenhaus in – yes, you guessed it right – Berlin-Kreuzberg.

If you are between 30 and 50 but lived through the first decade of the 2000s without ever hearing the music of Paul Kalkbrenner, it begs the question: where the heck were you?:)
