Everything You Never Knew You Wanted to Know About Berlin
Here are some photos taken in front of the former Zentrale Dienststelle für Juden in Fontanepromenade 15 after the unveiling of the memorial plaque and after the art intervention which took place here on Thursday, May 23rd. More about the event was written in the following post from last week.
Be like the man I saw in front of the house this morning: he came down Fontanepromenade on his bike, cycling slowly on the pavement – a route he knows by heart and blindfolded. Not used to the presence of the plaque standing in front of the house he almost hit it and ended up swearing quietly. Then he bent over to pick up the flowers leaning on the plaque which he almost run over, straightened himself up, looked at the text and the photos and got off his bike. He was still reading when I rode away.
You don´t even have to “almost hit” anything – just stop and read. And think.
