KREUZBERGED BERLIN

Everything You Never Knew You Wanted to Know About Berlin

READING CORNER: JUDITH SCHALANSKY´S “POCKET ATLAS OR REMOTE ISLANDS”

This might be the best book that German Republic produced within the last 54 years (1959 was a very good year for Lafite-Rothschild and Günter Grass:).

It is gripping, it is different and there is something wonderfully unreal about it. It is a book of 50 remote islands that Judith Schalansky, a Berlin writer, has never visited and never will. Or so she thinks. If she keeps writing that good, soon she´ll be able to afford flying to any or all of them.

Published in English by Penguin Books.

Thoroughly agree. I’ve had it in a very nice hardback edition for several years now and regularly re-read.

I bought it two hours ago and immediately was so hooked that I almost forgot to pick up my son from his break-dance class:) As far as I´m concerned, one of the 50 books that everyone should read before they die.
