KREUZBERGED BERLIN

Everything You Never Knew You Wanted to Know About Berlin

MAY THE DAY COME!

TOPSHOTS A woman pretends to throw a cake towards a police car during May Day celebrations on May 1, 2011 in Berlin. The international day of the worker has for the past two decades been accompanied in German cities by sporadic street violence and pitched battles between far-right skinheads, anti-fascist groups and police. Here is an article and a great series of photos from Berlin-Kreuzberg (with one exception of Neukölln´s Karl-Marx-Strasse) taken on May 1st, 2011 and published in “Der Spiegel” magazine.

Hopefully, tomorrow is going to be as exciting and as colourful as in these images – “exciting” and “colourful” by our own Kreuzberg standards:-)

May no cars burn, may no windows be smashed, may people show some basic respect towards each other even if there ain´t no love lost between them and may the Mai-Fest be a feast, not a fight.

Enjoy it!
