Everything You Never Knew You Wanted to Know About Berlin

UP AND AWAY WITH U1: welcome to the time machine

I found those two films on YouTube service, looking for anything about U1.

Both films were filmed from the front of the train but only one was originally a digital production. In 1995 a VHS camera was still the media bee´s knees – the author of this film was therefore a well equipped guy.

It´s both fascinating and somehow touching to see Kreuzberg as it was in the 1990s and then to watch the same area in 2008. Plenty of changes took place in the meantime. But U1 remains the same. Something has to.

They used to show these films (U-Bahn and S-Bahn rides) in the night programme of SFB (Sender Freies Berlin; now RBB). I think they produced these films and sold them as VHS videos. Nice to watch them again!
