KREUZBERGED BERLIN

Everything You Never Knew You Wanted to Know About Berlin

OF EVERYDAY WONDERS or DIGGING UP THE CABARET

Thanks to Slow Travel Berlin´s Facebook page I read about the unbelievable discovery made in Berlin recently.

In Gartenstrasse in Berlin-Mitte an old cabaret / ballroom dating back to 1905 was discovered in an almost completely unchanged condition. Fancy that. They remove the rubble, they open the door, go in and stand inside Kubrick´s Shining (minus ax-swinging Jack Nicholson and the creepy twins). Your truly´s wet dream, if you will pardon the connotation.

Here is the link to The Independent´s photo collection presenting this singular discovery:

I went to visit the Kolibri Festsälle after the photos appeared in Tagesspiegel and whilst there was an exhibition in the building (I think this may be finished now though). Obviously, the rubble had been cleared out, which made it a little less romantic somehow but an interesting slice of history.
