KREUZBERGED: BERLIN COMPANION

Everything You Never Knew You Wanted to Know About Berlin

TODAY IN KREUZBERG: JANUARY, 24th – DEATH OF PETER JOSEF LENNE

The questioning eye-brow of Peter Joseph Lenne

1866

Peter Joseph Lenne, the Lenne, is dead! The man who designed more than 360 parks and gardens, who gave Kreuzberg Generalszug (more about it later this week), Belle-Alliance-Platz (Mehringplatz today), Mariannenplatz, Wassertorplatz and Oranienplatz, as well as the original plans for Viktoriapark and Luisenstadt and the canal (Landwehrkanal was his design); the man who bejewelled Tiergarten with Tiergarten and Potsdam with Park Sanssouci dies after suffering a massive stroke.

Lenne´s plans and today (found on ichundluise.blogspot.com, a great local blog)

He leaves behind, among others (German site of Wikipedia goes on naming his achievements for much longer; in case you were interested, here is the link):

Enough said.
