KREUZBERGED: BERLIN COMPANION

Everything You Never Knew You Wanted to Know About Berlin

METHINKS IT IS TIME TO DO SOME SHAKESPEARE, ALTER!

In Görlitzer Park, the place seldom considered to be a fountain of high culture and a meeting point for more refined tastes, the impossible is happening: Shakespeare´s Henry IV is staged here weekly and absolutely free of charge. Strange bedfellows as theatre and Görli are, the park has finally something more to offer apart from the usual merry drug dealers, the not actually honey-tongued winos and the extended Roma family squating next to Edelweiss (I´m probably not the only one hearing the history giggle here?)

Visit the page shakespeareimpark.wordpress.com and find out all about Henry´s, Falstaff´s and Orson Welles`sojourn in Kreuzberg. And if you are in town and free this afternoon, it´s your chance to meet them all: go to the park entrance in Oppelner Strasse at 4 PM and join the wandering troup. If all the world´s a stage, then Görli can be, too.

Such a shame about the rain! They were also showing Dido & Aeneas in the Waldbuehne yesterday: 54 dancers and only some of them were supposed to get wet (they were literally dancing under water in a giant glass tank). Thanks to the weather it all got a tad slippery…
